Employers/New Applicants/Licensees


New licenses are posted to this site immediately when a license is issued and the licensee is valid to start practicing. Photo ID License Cards and Renewal stickers are no longer being issued. If you need to verify a license please click "Verify License" where you may view or print a copy for your records. You do not need to "log in" to verify a license. These verifications print in a certificate format and meet all JACHO requirements.

CEU and Renewal Information

All WV LRTRs and LRTCs are required to list (and encouraged to upload) 20 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), obtained between October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2024, to their online portal by October 1, 2024. If you are newly licensed in West Virginia, please see the prorated CEU information at the link below.


**If the carry over hours are not automatically populating, please manually enter them and title all fields "carry over hours."


Helpful CEU and Database Documents:

The official renewal period will begin November 1, 2024. The Board will send an email with further instructions regarding the renewal process in October of 2024. Please be sure that your email address is current on your online portal to ensure receipt of all pertinent correspondences such as renewal notices and instructions.

WVBORC Legislative Updates

Series 1: Criteria for Licensure/Emergency Rule
This change will provide CRT credentialed therapists who have earned their CRT after July 1, 2022, the opportunity to work in the State of West Virginia for 12 months and obtain job experience in further preparation to take and pass the advanced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) examination of which they have been academically prepared to pass. The Emergency Rule is scheduled to take effect on October 11, 2024, unless it receives prior approval from the West Virginia Secretary of State. Please note, this rule does not affect the current Licensed Respiratory Therapist Certified who have obtained their CRT credentials before July 1, 2022.

Series 9: Student Temporary Permit – Amended
This amended rule went into effect on May 18, 2024. The rule broadens the scope of the Student Temporary Permit. Please note the Educational Facility Affidavit and Employer's Statement forms have been updated to reflect the changes in this rule. Please click here for the updated application.

Series 11: Telehealth Practice; Requirements; Definitions
A new rule has been filed with the West Virginia Secretary of State to expand on the Telehealth practice, requirements, and definitions.

APPLY FOR A LICENSE ONLINE: (PREFERRED)
PLEASE NOTE WHEN YOU “APPLY” FOR A LICENSE ONLINE, YOU MAY PAY BY CREDIT CARD AND UPLOAD COPIES OF YOUR ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS; NBRC CERTIFICATE OR SCORE REPORTS, SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS, ANY REQUIRED CEUS**, AND A COPY OF YOUR GOVERNMENT ISSUED PHOTO ID. WHEN APPLYING ONLINE YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE YOUR DOCUMENTS NOTARIZED.

LICENSE REINSTATEMENT APPLICATION

** ONLINE IS THE PREFERRED METHOD FOR REINSTATEMENT **
To reinstate an expired or inactive license online, you must login with your email address as your user ID. If you have not logged in before you may need to check with our office that we have your correct email address on file. Once logged in, you will need to click the Reinstate button to reinstate then mark reinstatement at the top.
If you do not remember your license number, you may use the Verify License option above to search for yourself to find your old number.
You may ALSO manually apply with the New Application Form under Reports and Forms and submit along with a applicable fee by check/money order to PO Box 40329, Charleston, WV 25364. This manual method may delay issuance of your license.

Employers/New Applicants
New licenses are posted to this site immediately when numbers are issued and are valid to start practicing. Photo ID License Cards are no longer being issued to licensees but sealed verifications may be sent upon request. If you need to verify if a practitioner has a valid license please click "Verify License" where you may view or print a copy for your records. These verifications meet the requirements mandated by JACHO.

Visiting the Board Office

When visiting the Board Office, please make an appointment in advance by calling 304-558-1382 or emailing wvborc@wv.gov. You may use the dropbox when we are away from the office.

Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing Education is Waived during State of Emergency
The current CEU accrual period is between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Twenty CEUs are required to be taken/dated within this time frame and be logged into your account under the "CEUS" tab. Logging CEU's as you take them will serve as your CE record keeping. Remember, you must renew your license each year in November or December, but your CEU's are due on the even years ending (2024).
